The idea of going to a club or bar by myself to practice approaching women sounds like the most anti-social thing to do. Are there any nightlife social places that are accustomed to solo attendees?

Yeah.... everywhere.

No one's going to judge you for deciding to go out and enjoy yourself and have a good time, and you'll only look like the desperate/needy/creepy guy if you find yourself trying (and failing) to hit on every single woman in the bar.

Go out. Have fun and enjoy the setting and the ambience on the atmosphere. And think about what you're really attracted to, and be moderately selective in your approaches.

Maybe you'll meet someone, maybe you won't. But go there again. And again. After awhile you'll start to some familiar faces. The more often you see them, the more comfortable you are, and sooner or later, someone speaks.

Bars are much easier to take in, so maybe start with that. People sit solo at bars all the time. It's easy to meet these people, then maybe later on you can meet their friends and whatnot.
