Is it just me or is impossible to get a second chance if you mess up the first?

depends where you are in the relationship and how badly you fucked up. if it's early on, then yeah mistakes can cost you. if it's later on, giving it time is your best option.

By this point, the moment is GONE man...so a 2nd chance wouldnt even be on the table. Too much time passed.
