You won't be successful approaching girls until first, you're extremely comfortable in your own skin just being there, and second when you can be sociable and friendly with everybody including guys, girls, friends, strangers, servers, whoever.

It's easy to practice this:

At first, just be quiet, meditative and observant. Don't say anything, but think about what is pleasant and fun in the situation. This alone will make you interesting and appealing to the people around you.

When you feel comfortable, talk to the person nearest to you about innocuous subjects like the weather or whatever is going on around you. Say little, and listen attentively in a friendly way.

These two steps alone will make you more fun to be around than 90% of the people around you. You're already on your way!

This is applicable to all situations such as business meetings, classrooms and riding the bus, not just at bars, concerts and at the beach.

Eventually when you approach attractive women it will only be a continuation of your normal, fun, sociable self.

Stop looking down/going on your phone. I would actually leave your phone at home or leave it in the car entirely. Be present in the moment, keep eye contact and welcome people into your bubble:
