Girls don’t approach guys they have already rejected, so you’re doing something right regarding your looks. She’s giving you a chance but you’re failing the shit test straight away by answering it with logic. You’ll learn with more practice so don’t worry too much about it. Try agree & amplify or switching it on her with a playful tease, usually does the trick.

Social interactions are a game (why this is called game). You're being too serious in your responses and that takes away the fun aspect for her. So she stops playing.

If she says: "You look depressed, are you ok?"

You could say something like: "Nah I was just trying to work up my courage to approach a pretty girl I saw earlier. Hi I'm, u/Freeliljay btw."'

There needs to be some room for her to expand it, and for you to play around with. If it's straight to a direct compliment + minor intimacy (exchanging names) she's left with a binary choice of rejecting or accepting you right then and there. While that may show your confidence, it gets too serious too fast and doesn't leave you two with a lot to work with or make a connection from.

There's a lot in her question you can ask back to her (she's revealing that she likes to help people, she might possibly have been depressed or know someone who was, etc.) that are easier positions to build intimacy from without jumping straight into looks. You must be doing something right though because she left the door open for you to approach again at the end of the conversation.

TLDR: You're playing the game too seriously. Don't forget to have fun

Girl here...That doesn't seem like a true rejection. She wanted you to come back to her and talk more. She came up to you and started talking? She probably just picked the "what's wrong" question because that's the only thing she could think of as an excuse to talk to you. If I were you I would wait a few minutes to see where she went to (did she go back to her bf or date? = rejection) If not then I would go back and say something like "oh hey you're right you are around here haha lol whatever" then try to talk to her. If she rejects you then, yeah... But if not you're good to go.

Say, "I was til you said hi!" Give her a big smile and carry on from there changing the subject from depression.
