Ever since I came to college, I've been trying to get myself out of my shell by being more sociable, talk more, and of course try to meet new people. In high school I wasn't really an awkward person, but I was definitely lacking social skills.

Anyway, I've been looking to change myself for the better and today is one hell of an improvement. For the past couple of weeks I've been slowly getting more comfortable talking with people, ranging from friends to complete strangers. When I got to my class for the day, I say this girl that I wanted to ask out, but didn't know how to. When class ended, I said to myself "Fuck it, here we go," and met up with her after class. Our exchange went as follows:

Me: Hello, excuse me. I think you're cute so I thought I'd come and say hi. I like your sunglasses by the way.

Girl: Oh, thank you! That's so sweet of you!

Me: You're welcome. I'm OP, what's your name?

Girl: I'm (insert name here)

We talked about our classes and other stuff as I walked with her out of the building. It was going pretty well (I think, she seemed happy to be talking) and soon she needed to go to her next class. I was done for the day, so I was just going to go back to my dorm and do homework. I suggested that we meet up sometime later and have coffee, and asked for her number. She gave it me! After that, we parted ways and I was smiling all the way to my dorm.

Later in the day, I sent here a text saying that we should arrange a time and place to meet. I was informed that she had a boyfriend.

While yes, that was a bit of a blow to me, I still considered it a win because I had the courage to approach her, tell her she was cute, and got her number, all in front of other people.

So yeah I feel pretty good today, and that interaction has given me the confidence I need to ask out other people easier.
