The only way achieve growth is by stepping outside of your comfort zone.
Today I was on the way home on the train. I was sitting in a four-seater all by myself when two men came and sat beside me (they were friends and sat opposite each other).
I noticed one of them wearing a very nice suit. So I told myself to compliment them on it. Everything in my body fought against me opening my mouth to say it. I waited more than 5 seconds to take action. I hesitated. I started to make excuses. I told myself my opinion doesn’t matter. They will judge me. I was creating fake scenarios and a shit ton of excuses.
Much like the feeling you get before you cold approach. Hesitation kills you. However, I said enough was enough and I just said “excuse me” then proceeded to compliment his suit. Then I small talked for a bit before getting off at my stop. That shit wasn’t bad after all, in fact it wasn’t bad AT ALL. It was normal. It was good.
After this my confidence skyrocketed. I was “in state” and felt good about myself. When you prove your internal beliefs wrong, when you prove your self-doubts wrong and just take action, you grow and you increase your confidence. I’ve done pushups in public, lied down on a busy sidewalk for a minute, taken selfies with strangers, all this other shit. Now I have all these reference experiences and it has helped build the foundation of my confidence.
Yes its scary. I get it. I still feel nerves but nowhere as near as before. You gotta step the fuck outside your comfort zone. This goes with anything. You can choose to stay as you are right now, continuing to read shit and take no action at all or you can face your fears head on. It’s the only way. Thanks for reading. Just wanted to share this mini experience today.
