You have to feel lighthearted and like you're having fun, inside your body. When you're in that state it's impossible to hide your humor. It comes bubbling out either as humorous lines and chit chat, or even if you're quiet it comes out through your body language and laughter.

If you practice smiling in front of the mirror when you're alone, this actually makes it easier to smile spontaneously in social situations. It's a natural reflex which many of us have to re-learn through deliberate practice, to get the muscles working again.
