Why I ignore men that approach me on the street and tell them to fuck off if they keep trying.

I know most of you probably mean well. However, I’m never going to respond in a positive way to being approached on the street by a man. In a restaurant, well lit crowded store, bar or any social setting where I’m safe it’s fine but never on the street or public transportation.

Just yesterday a guy I tried to ignore but eventually told firmly “dude you can see I’m in the phone” completely flipped out on me. He followed me for an entire block screaming in my face, calling me a bitch and that he didn’t give a fuck about my phone. He only backed off because there was a cop around the corner.

I’ve been followed for blocks, a guy once did a u turn at an intersection and followed me while I walked home with his window down, catcalling me. I didn’t want him to know where I lived so I had to calmly walk past my house to a gas station where I got help. I’ve been pushed against a wall, had a guy grab my arm and not let go until I screamed and I had a tooth punched out by a drunk man whose catcalls I ignored in college. Why don’t I tell the harassers to fuck off? Because that’s how you get killed, they clearly have no sense of decency and don’t look at me as a person but as an object to play with. Women are getting killed out there.

So to all of you decent men that just want to say hi and have a conversation, if I’m walking alone down the street just leave me the hell alone.
