Why not look for a job before you move? From what I have heard $2400 won't even be enough to pay a cardboard-box on the streets of the Bronx for one month.

Just do it. Obviously, look for a job and a place to live before you go, but put it into your head that you are going on June 1 and the world had better get out of your fucking way because this is happening!

I moved to Europe to a country where I didn't speak one word of the language with nothing but a backpack and a few dollars. I have a friend who lived in a fucking broom closet in New York and smiles every time he tells that story.

Put it this way: if you don't do it, and you end up staying in San Fran, your whole life you'll be wondering what would have happened if you'd grown a pair and just done it.

Many people have aspirations of moving to NYC to pursue bigger and better things. If that's you, go for it. But you better have something lined up because I've seen many ruin their lives in the process. They rack up credit card debt between jobs and eventually sit homeless on the sidewalk crying for help because they're left with nothing. Welp, they've only got themselves to blame for not having a back up plan or even a solid plan A.

I may be an asshole but I don't feel an ounce of sorrow for those transplants that had their dreams crushed. There are plenty of other things to feel sorry for and this isn't one of them.

New York is expensive and the job market is tight. What do you want out of a city?

From personal experience, people from SF and New York fucking love Philadelphia. Everything about it is amazing. Art. Music. Food. Culture. Location. Rent.

Get this, there is a fucking brewery not too far from my house. I can walk in, drink some amazing beer, finish, and walk down the street to get the best sandwich on earth. I may pass some neighbors sitting on their steps and we'll chat for a few minutes. A few kids that I've given swim lessons to will ask me a million questions and I'll chuckle. If I need to get somewhere in the city, I can be there in 10 minutes thanks to public transportation. My rent is surprisingly cheap and my landlords are working class people like myself.

I can ride my bike and expect bike racks and lanes. I can go for a run along the world's largest urban public park. Run under the trees along the river and look at all the rock formations. There's tons of art stuff too. Painting, music, and so forth.

Hell, some days I hate the fucking city and it's stupid skyline. I'll drive my truck up the turnpike to the Appalachian mountains an hour away and climb boulders all day. I'll sleep under the stars in the cool summer night and think of all the manly shit I'll get to do tomorrow. I'll go back into the city and find something I didn't know of before.
