I have done this. For me personally its a commitment issue. Not feeling like im good enough for a relationship makes me crave the validation that I am good enough. Ive gotten pretty good at attracting girls over time and jump out every time they express interest in locking me down. Ive let some really good ones go to waste because of this. Maybe i'm just scared of being in a relationship? I will fight tooth and nail to break this patern for the right one. Im trying to love myself more and more overtime but it feels really nice when someone else does it.

Thank you for sharing this, it’s very helpful to read that insight.

I’ve done this somewhat frequently. I think it comes down to thinking I possibly want them then once I have it I lose interest. Also I probably lead them on when I drink and say too much.
So it’s about the chase, interesting and thanks for your reply

Interesting, one guy was a true narcissist indeed. The biggest ego I’ve ever seen.

Interesting. I don't have an answer but a couple questions that could provide insight:
You say you were "sugar dating" which I take to mean these are wealthier men? If too personal I understand, but I'm just curious to know how their money is untilized in the relationship? I'm asking because it sounds like this is a mutually-agreed upon aspect of the relationship, known from the beginning. I agree with the train of thought you started: they want to know that they mean more to you than just their money. It is validation for them. Even if that is agreed upon and understood contingency for the relationship, they haven't disclosed the emotional cost required of you.
My mind also takes a darker twist, wondering if it's more malevolent than that. They want to make you fall hard so they can drop you hard. Any indicators of misogyny?
Edit: to add one more thought to this, I wonder if this is a pattern more prevalent in wealthy men, or maybe just the sugar-scene? I would think a poor man would be less inclined to do this, and the sex would be enough, he is more assured that you at least like him.

Those are valid questions. These men are all pretty rich (at least a few million usd) and yes there was/is a clear financial exchange in our relationship, in addition to gifts, experiences etc.
For the misogyny aspect, you are completely right. I’m a sexually active woman who makes it clear I’m interested in material gain, which puts me in the “whores who deserve whatever’s coming for them” category for some men. And that’s a good enough justification for them to want to hurt me. I’m always on my guards and looking out for red flags whenever I’m with a man.
But let’s put it this way: even if they want to hurt me, there are much easier, efficient and cost-effective ways to do so. I still would find it strange if that was their ultimate goal, because in the meantime they are investing a lot of time, effort and money.
Also since they have been breaking hearts since high school for some of them, I think it goes beyond the sugar dating aspect.
I wonder if this is a pattern more prevalent in wealthy men, or maybe just the sugar-scene?
My view is these men are great at seducing/manipulating and have incredible social skills, which makes them more likely to be successful in business too, not just with women. I think that may be the reason why I saw this behavior more with rich guys.

Hmmm.... Those are also traits common in sociopaths. Definitely some narcissism, but not necessarily narcissistic personality disorder. Narcissism is a behavior as well that we all engage in. I'm getting more sociopathic vibes, have you considered this? I'm curious as to how they interact with other people. Are they arrogant towards "the help" or lower class, not necessarily to their face, but maybe something after the interaction. Do they seem to see people as "how useful are you to me"? I know these are hard questions, because they are surely kind and charming to everybody. They are spending all that money on you because you offer them sex and intimacy (of course) and also social status, arm candy, so I doubt hurting you is the main benefit.... but perhaps just a plus to stroke their ego, which is probably of the utmost importance to them (their ego)

I’m pretty sure of them was a narcissist, but I hadn’t considered sociopathic behavior to be honest. I hope that’s not what it is but I’ll look into it. Thanks
Edit: they treat people well (huge tips to waiters, jokes with staff etc.) but they also cheat (and almost all of them lied to me at first about being single) and I’ve seen some of them lie to family and friends.

Lol honestly I can relate to so many of these qualities (some not, fortunately) that I’m not sure how reliable it is, or maybe I’m the sociopath 😅
For some men, its about collecting two trophies.. named sex and love. They purchased the sex trophy through sugar, so the 'love' trophy is the only one left. Once they have it, they dump you.
Yes, maybe that’s just what it is. Thanks
..or perhaps they were demonstrating.. or attempting to demonstrate higher value
That’s a great point, you’re definitely right about that (demonstrating higher value), but I’ve also witnessed drama in some cases so I know there is some truth to what they’re saying.

Sex first, love second. I'm primarily in it for the sex. I don't care if a woman has feels/loves me unless I feel the same way, and then I care.
Are any of you guys serial heartbreakers?
Sure, but not because I didn't care or love her. It's because we wanted two different types of relationships. I wanted a sexually open relationship (I'm cool with emotional monogamy) whereas she wanted a typical monogamous relationship. When we realized that neither of us were willing to compromise on the relationship structure, we knew we'd have to split. It was amicable, but it still hurt like a motherfucker. It's happened multiple times.
If so, are you conscious of it and what is your motivation?
Retaining my sexual freedom. I have no desire to give a woman total control over my sex drive.

That makes sense to me, it’s different from what the guys I’m talking about are doing. You’re not trying to get girls to fall in love with you, it just happens as you get closer. It doesn’t sound like you’re being deceptive about your intentions either.
[–]drdavidbanner20 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I try not to be.
Why do they want you to fall in love with them if they don't feel the same? That doesn't make sense to me.
I seduced because for me, it was a pure artform. When I did it right, I would get scratches all over my back and I felt like a god. For me, it was the thrill of the hunt. The next morning, I couldn't get her home fast enough.
Now that said, if I felt a woman was girlfriend material, I would give that a shot and some ONS led to relationships. Most ONS did not.
But initially, it was about finding a woman sexually attractive and getting her into my bedroom.
Classic, I can understand that

Do you ever not do sugar-dating? What gives.
I was told women like guys who don't have money.

I have in the past (even supported my ex financially while he stayed at my place), not anymore. This works better for me at the moment. I can’t speak for other women though.
