If you already showed your interest to her then that's not coming on too strong. It's just being direct. But if you think that you "showed your interest" without getting any reaction from her then it's coming too strong.

You asking for the date depends on her interest level, you determine that during your conversation when you got her number and then how the text response goes when you hit her up. If you give off a lax feel in person and then dive into hey quick let’s meet up you look desperate and have nothing else to do. Play it off of what she gives you.
