Recently, I rekindled an old friendship over an impromptu FaceTime with a girl I used to be close to. I’ve been talking to this girl for about 2 nights now. Started getting a little flirty and she started telling me that she wanted a new relationship, but she was already in one with a current boyfriend. After hearing she had a boyfriend, I was still a little jokingly flirty to lighten the mood. I said goodnight with no intentions of really pursuing anything other than a friendship with this girl. I also started to see red flags so I just decided to back down.

Cut to this morning, I’m woken up with a very unpleasant surprise: she broke up with her boyfriend of 6 months for me! I already have no intentions of dating her and this is just another obvious red flag! I would tell her I’m not interested right now in other circumstances but there’s an underlying problem.

This girl has been both depressed and suicidal for around 2 years now. Our friendship actually ended in the first place because she kept calling me crying while she was cutting herself! I thought she was in a better place in life but I’m doubting that now. She’s in an even worse state to receive any bad news and has been crying constantly about how depressed she is that she dumped her boyfriend and that I am the only thing that can make her happy.

Is there anything nat all that I can do to let her down easily? Should I end communications now, or after this drama has past? If I stay, I’m worried that I’ll give her the wrong idea, but still don’t want her to hurt herself in this emotional state. I’m begging for help, what should I do?
