Not sure if this is in-person/what the lecture hall/seating is like at all especially with COVID.

If it's in a large lecture hall, you could sit near her during the lecture. After, you could try to make eye contact, smile, and then say something like, "Hey, I'm sorry to bother you, but I missed what the professor said about the assignment; what did she say?"

Once she responds, you could say, "Ah, thank you! Also, I'm [your name]. What's yours?" Then you could transition into saying you don't know many people in the class and you'd be happy to exchange contact info if one of you ever misses class and needs notes or has any questions about things.

I'm a girl and had this done to me, and I've done it to guys as well. If she continues to seem open and receptive throughout the interaction then keep going. If she seems closed off or answering quickly/trying to leave fast, then maybe hold off after the initial question.

This is of course, just how to start conversation. After you get to know her a bit, and several more in person interactions then feel free to ask her out. If you take her contact info under the guise of the class and then immediately ask her out using that contact info, it'll seem creepy, but since you asked how to just start talking to her, this is a good way to begin.
