tltr: Making a competition out of suffering is stupid. We don't talk enough about issues men have to face. But sometimes it can be out of place. The goal should be to better the situation for everyone.

I'm a little ambivalent about this topic.

First I'm totally on your side that people need to stop making a comparison out of suffering. I absolutely hate it. It's like some people want to collect discrimination points. Also we definitely don't talk enough about issues that men face in society.

On the other side I see that often when people talk about the issues of specific individuals (regardless of gender, race, sexuality or health), others people feel the need to point out that the people with another gender, race, sexuality (they are often a part of these other groups) have the same problem. And sometimes it feels a bit out of place.

Some time ago I was watching a streamer, she was reacting to a documentation about child marriages in the US and in this documentation they were following two victims, both women. And every 5-10 minutes someone pointed out that there are also boys who got married as children. And that's right, of course. But the problem was that it also happened when these two women talked about their own experience.

It was not about them being women, they acted not like it it was worse because they were girls and not boys or anything like that. It was about them being abused as children.

And if they would have talked about the fact that they themselves were a victim or knowing someone who was a victim of child marriage, that would have been something else, it would have added something of value and another perspective to the topic.

The problem was that all they wrote was basically "Boys too". And in my opinion the only thing they did at these moments was taking the focus of the victims.

I know that was not the situation in this case, especially since they acted like abuse of women is more important and much worse. Also I don't think that these people had any bad intentions. I just want to point out that sometimes it can be out of place.

And in any case, it should be possible to talk about the fact that other people have the same issues, without getting verbally attacked or ridiculed. The goal should be to better the situation for anyone, without making it about gender.

And at last: Don't argue with radicals on the internet, it's a waste of time. But it can be worthwhile outside the Internet.

They need that victim narrative to escape responsibility.

Oh, what do you mean I need to take responsibility? I’m a victim. I don’t make bad choices, I’m a victim. I’m perfect and don’t need to change or think about myself in a meaningful way. I don’t need to go to therapy or work on myself. I don’t need to be responsible for my own finances, develop a productive career, contribute to society in a meaningful way, or even be responsible for my own physical safety. None of that is my obligation, at all, and if anything bad happens to me, I am a victim, and if you say anything that contradicts my victim narrative, you are a bad person.

Most women, the vast majority, are allergic to responsibility.

It's highly beneficial for women to play the victim card as much as possible.

If society didn't see them as victims they wouldn't get free passes to do fucked up things to others and get free shit just for existing.

Same thing would happen if you said all lives matter to BLM activists.

Because white people, or in this case men, are the oppressor - giving the oppressor the same powers they want for themselves would be dangerous.
