If you leave the home you're probably going to get court ordered to continue paying for the home and all associated utilities/expenses, as well as whatever accommodations/expenses you've gotten for yourself, going forward until the resolution of the divorce. So now she's got everything she could possibly want - your money, your house, and no you around. What incentive does she have to reach a reasonable settlement given that scenario? And that's even without kids in the picture, leaving the house with kids is basically screaming to the judge that you're perfectly fine with the kids living primarily with the mother and the judge will be all too happy to continue that in perpetuity, with you paying the corresponding high child support and becoming simply a visitor in your children's lives. Choices are all about incentives, and moving out incentivizes the woman to continue as long as possible in a situation that is very bad for you, draining you financially until you're forced to take a very bad deal just to stop the bleeding.

This is assuming you are the breadwinner. If you leave the home you own the marital income is reduced by the added housing costs of 2 homes. If you stay she has more incentive to settle so that you can physically separate and sell the home.

Your fact situation may be different but generally the divorce will happen sooner if you stay.

Divorce proceedings are like being in a dangerous traffic intersection. The longer you stay in them the more likely you will be hurt.

Lawyer fees mount up the longer the proceedings take.
