Can someone explain the psychology behind agree&amplify and amused mastery?

Agree and amplify works because it changes the emotional attitude from serious to comical through exaggeration and make it seem less serious. This can be toxic when the accusation should be seriously addressed and has legitimacy.

Amused mastery works because it shows your self-esteem is so high you aren't even troubled by someone's attack to the point you find it a bit comical and ridiculous. This can be toxic when again the attack was legitimate. But sometimes when someone has seriously insulted you where being calm is completely unexpected then you can appear too passive and avoidant of conflit.

Fogging works because when you agree with things people are saying and paraphrasing them people feel listened to and agreed with. Resolving conflicts is much easier when common ground is established. This tactic can be toxic when its used to ignore legitimate disagreements that really should be addressed.

I think the above tactics can be used to derail but it depends on whether they are being used for legitimate concerns or not. I don't think these tactics are like word salad because that requires an overly complex explanation that doesn't make sense.

Agree and amplify - Instead of arguing against a point, just agree with the person but try to connect their view to a ridiculous end. Of course, if their position DOES lead to that end, this isn't necessarily bad to call out, but red pill mostly uses it to gaslight and shut women up.

Amused mastery - Instead of getting angry at a point, just act like it's all beneath you. Even laugh at it. Red pill mostly uses this to... again, gaslight and shut women up. Especially if she wants to talk about a serious issue in the relationship.

Both of these combined are often used to try to paint yourself as the calm, "rational" one and your partner as the angry, "emotional" one. Why you would want to define you and someone you love in these terms is beyond me, but then again, red pillers don't know what love is.
