posted this on personalfinance, but wanted your opinions brothers.
so i've been living as a guest at an apartment, my landlord is a friend of a close friend. tomorrow will be the last night i stay, and for the first 4 months i've been promised a kitchen, but it came only 2 weeks ago(i moved in in february). the kitchen was incomplete, as there is no exhaust vent and there was only the white wall of the room, so frying and cooking left some oil blotches on the wall(less than 30x30cm squared). I already paid 300 dollars that he asked for cleaning, which he originally said was 200-250 dollars, still pretty expensive. now he is asking for 750usd for painting and carpet cleaning. what do i do? i want to stick to my guns and tell him that it isn't fair to pay a ridiculous amount for cleaning and repainting, but i don't want to burn my bridges with him, since he is friends with the said close friend. how do i politely tell him that i have already paid a substantial sum to clean the apartment? anyone in the kitchen would've made that mess, since it didn't have an exhaust vent, and cover to protect the wall it's against.
