Not excusing anything but here's some POSSIBLE context:

India - strong cultural to have kids once married.
Likely an arranged marriage - parents of husband may have misrepresented their son's desire to marry and could have pressured him into it, and thereby also lied to the bride and her family.
Homosexuality is a big taboo, especially in more rural areas.

I have grown up around a lot of Indian families - the above could explain why the poor guy chose suicide.
