What to do in set scenarios ?

In my book I just wrote, I talked about a scenario where my student approached a woman reading... Maybe this could help you.

Approach number five actually started off great for Pete. He saw a woman reading alone, walked up to her, got her attention with a confident introduction, and brought just the right amount of cool, calm, playfulness to his ice breaker which was about the book she was reading. It was something along the lines of, “That must be a really good book, I mean you didn’t even notice this amazingly handsome guy walk by.”

Although his ice breaker wasn’t exactly the format that I instructed, it still fit within the framework of noticing something about the situation (the book) and showing confidence with playful energy (the humorous self-brag about himself).

He then worked in a genuine, believable and flirtatious compliment about wishing he was her book so he could be the one that gets to stare back into her beautiful eyes all afternoon. I was truly impressed with both his courage to boldly compliment her while keeping a playful energy as well.

However, during stage four, while he properly remembered to begin to ask her questions about her passions and career, he fumbled the bag by not being a good listener and totally dominating the entire conversation. I wanted to tell him to “Shut the fuck up!”, but I decided it was better for him to learn this lesson the hard way.

“Dude!” he eventually chirped over the radio when she told him she got an ‘emergency call from her mom’ and had to abruptly get up and leave. “Why’d she just get up and go!? I thought everything was going great!”

“Yeah, you thought it was going great for you because you got to talk about yourself the whole time!” I replied.

“Oh, fuck,” he explicitly sighed.

“Why did you spend all your time bragging and boasting about your job and career but not get her talking about what she’s passionate about?”

“I thought I was impressing her! It seems like a good idea for her to know I am successful with my job,” he argued.

“Too bad that’s not what turns women on,” I explained with emphasis. “Women don’t care about the facts and figures of your job. I mean, they might politely sit there while you bore her to death talking about yourself, but the whole time you’re doing that, she will be desperately searching for a way to get out.”

“Shoot,” he spouted sadly.

“You’ve got to make her feel bonded and close to you during the conversation, okay? So next time, actively listen and use the echo technique. Get her to open up and show her a genuine interest in what she’s saying. Women will talk about themselves, their interests, and their lives all day if you ask the right questions and use the echo technique,” I instructed and added, “So get her talking and keep her talking next time.”

“Sorry,” he sighed.

“You’re good! Just learn! You know that from now on, unless you’re speaking with a woman showing serious curiosity about your career, volunteering all that information about yourself doesn’t make you look good. It actually makes it look like you’re trying to get someone to pat you on the back.”

“Okay.”

Also in my book, this advice covering how to approach women in a group...

“The rewards can be big if you can do it,” I added. “Imagine getting a woman’s group of friends on your side right off the bat. You know she’d really like that.”

Pete raised his eyebrows high while he continued contemplating what I said.

“So here’s how you break the ice,” I began. “You do something I call The Comment/Question Combo since comments and questions go together like burgers and fries.”

“Ha!” laughed Pete. “What’s that exactly?”

“You simply say both a comment and a question to successfully break the ice,” I stated.

“I figured that,” remarked Pete a little sarcastically. “A comment and question about what?”

“A comment and a question about the current location, the current occasion, and/or the current situation everyone finds themselves in,” I answered very authoritatively.

Pete cocked his head to the side like a confused dog.

“Let me give you an example,” I started before interrupting my train of thought, “Oh, and that reminds me, something I like to do before I break the ice,” I mentioned, “See if you can quickly see what she or her group may be in the middle of before you say anything. Anything you overhear her or her group talking about can inform the way you go about choosing the comment/question combination you say…”

“Oh, cool. What would that look like?” Pete asked.

“Well, you should ideally add to whatever she’s doing in a playful way. Her saying, ‘Yum, this food is so good’, for example, can be followed by you saying, ’Have you tried it with hot sauce? I ask the servers to bring me little cups of it and drink them like shots of liquor!’.”

“Oh, that’s good,” Pete replied genuinely. “And I also noticed that your question came before your comment right then.”

“Good catch!” I announced with a smile and confirmed, “The order in which you ask the question and say the comment are interchangeable for sure.”

Pete nodded and took down notes.

“Quickly attuning to what may be happening in her world in the few moments before you say something can also help prevent you from acting foolish. For example, you wouldn’t want to say something too silly if she’s in the middle of consoling her friend over something sad or depressing.”

“Makes sense.”
