My girlfriend and I were in a happy relationship. She’s an incredible person—nurturing, caring, and deeply understanding. Even when I messed up multiple times, she kept giving me chances and believed in me. Recently, though, everything changed.
A few weeks ago, we broke up—or so I thought. I saw her texting my sister and ended up checking her phone, where I discovered something unexpected. She didn’t leave me because she stopped loving me. Instead, she broke up because she believed our relationship was affecting my future and wanted me to focus on myself.
The last time we spoke, she said, “Focus on yourself, Kushagra. I’m not going anywhere. I’ll come back to you after two years, but until then, I want you to be the best version of yourself.” She told me she still loves me as much as she did from the beginning but believes rushing things and letting emotions take over might push us apart in the long run.
What really hurts is that she’s suffering a lot right now, and I want to be there for her—to support her, love her, and share her pain. But I can’t, because I don’t want to disturb her space or come across as needy. She’s asked me to focus on myself, and I respect that.
Now, I’m trying to stay strong, honor her wishes, and focus on becoming the best version of myself. But it’s so hard to hold onto this love and hope while balancing the work I need to do on myself.
How do I navigate this journey and stay true to both her belief in me and my love for her?
