Hello, everyone. This is my first post here, but I feel like I need to share my story. Maybe someone will relate or offer advice on how to finally let go of the past.

I met April (let's call her that) about two years ago. From the very beginning, our relationship felt unique. We connected effortlessly, supported each other in everything, and laughed at the same silly things. It seemed like I had finally found a woman who understood me like no one else before. She wasn’t just my girlfriend – she became my partner, my friend, my inspiration. I made plans for our future and even thought that one day, we would build a family together.

But as it turned out, I was looking at the world through rose-colored glasses. Gradually, I started noticing things that confused me. April could be incredibly kind and caring, yet at the same time, she would display qualities that threw me off. She became distant, cold, almost as if she were testing me. I chalked it up to stress, fatigue, or temporary issues. I loved her – so I thought I just needed to be patient, right?

Over time, cracks began to show in our relationship. One of the most painful realizations for me was discovering that April might not always be truthful. It didn’t matter if it was about big or small things. I felt deceived, but every time, I found excuses for her: “Maybe I misunderstood?”, “Maybe she’s just afraid to tell the truth?” I wanted to believe we could fix it, that love could overcome anything.

But then something happened that I could never have predicted. She started pulling away, spending more time with others and less with me. At some point, I found out she had started seeing another man. And it wasn’t just some new acquaintance – she poured into that relationship the energy and love that had once been for me. She left, leaving me in complete shock.

I was left in our apartment, surrounded by shared memories. Every little thing reminded me of her. The bed we slept in, the photos we took on our travels, even the dishes we chose together. It was unbearable. I felt betrayed, broken, and at the same time angry at myself for letting it happen.

But you know what’s interesting? Even after she left, she somehow stayed in my life. She would text me whenever she needed something. It seemed like she always found a way to remind me of her whenever I started to recover. These small things broke my heart over and over again. I kept asking myself, “Why am I still talking to someone who treated me this way?”

However, surprisingly, this situation taught me a lot. I realized that I had been putting others’ needs above my own for far too long. I ignored my feelings for the sake of “peace in the relationship.” I turned a blind eye to red flags because I was afraid of being alone.

Now I’m working on myself. I’ve started going to the gym, focusing on personal growth, and rebuilding my life. But I’ll be honest: there are still moments when it hurts inside. When memories resurface, and I wonder how things could have been different. I know time heals all wounds, but for now, I’m just trying to find balance and stop hating myself for what happened.

To those reading this: you’re not alone. And if any of you have gone through something similar, I’d be grateful for your advice. How do you let go completely? How do you stop thinking about someone who stopped thinking about you long ago?

Thank you for reading.
