I notice that college girls who are open to going for older guys in college town are usually grad students who are past their early 20s and if they are undergrads, it is usually a girl who is very closed off the social scene of her school. The way I describe the latter is the crazy political freak or girl of that sort of lower social standing, ones who are kinda "crazy" in a way.

As a grad student (26 which is old for a college town) in a college town who is tall and good looking, I notice that I have a relatively easy time with female grad students and on some rare occasions I might get a freaky undergrad but that is rare.

On the other hand, I've noticed that female athletes and sorority sisters (Greek scene is huge at my university and tons of hot girls are in sororities) are very closed off to going for anyone past college age. Other than fraternity brothers and athletes, no one else is really on their radar. In a nutshell, if she's good looking and drives a nice car, you have no shot as an older guy.
