Just had someone tell me they did not know circumcision is worse in the third world, so figured I'd do an OP on it. Here's a comment I once read linked to an article.

Except female genital mutilation (FGM) almost entirely happens outside of first-world countries. If you want to compare third-world FGM, you should at the very least compare it to third-world MGM, which is NOTHING like first-world circumcision.
