Read The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene. If you really want to master corporate politics and office interactions, that's by far the best book out there.

Also, STFU and execute. Don't make excuses, ever. No one cares why you didn't do someone else's job: just take care of it. Do you see something someone should do something about? You are someone. Do something about it.

My only advice for you is the following: do not, under any circumstance, engage in any form of office gossip. Don't shit-talk anybody to anybody. Avoid any office drama, and don't take sides. Another way of putting this is; don't say anything in private that could hurt you if made public.

Being new to a place of work requires patience. You have no idea of the politics of the place, you don't know their history, you don't know their relationships, you don't know who's on their way up and who's on their way out, etc so be careful who you make close associations with for quite awhile. When you do, make them with people who are moving forward. Be 100% professional all the time. Guard your reputation at all costs.

Edit: don't talk shit about anyone, ever.
