Today at the office, we got a bunch of drinks from an outside company (some kind of vegan energy drinks). We get things like this all the time, where companies drop off products and give them away to everyone.

I grabbed a couple of drinks from the security guard at reception. Later, around dinner time, I went back down because there was one flavor I really liked. This time, the female receptionist was on duty. I asked her which one was her favorite, and she recommended one.

She told me to take two, but as a joke, I picked up two full boxes instead of two cans. She looked at me, smiled, and said, “Don’t be so cheeky.” I said, “But we’ve got a lot of thirsty men upstairs,” (on reflection this sounds cringe) and she giggled and said, “Just take as many as you want.”

I ended up just grabbing two cans, put them in my bag, and went back upstairs.

At the end of the day, I went back down to go home. This time, the male security guard was gone, so it was just her at reception.

I said, “Those two recommendations were amazing. You’ve got really good taste.” She smiled, and I asked, “Got any more left?” She said no.

I said, “Wow, you’ve given me a taste and now you’re not going to give me any more?”

She said, “Well… there is one left.”

I asked, “Where is it?”

She said, “It’s in the fridge. I kept it for myself.”

Then she goes into the fridge, pulls out this ice-cold can, hands it to me, and says, “There you go. Now you get what you want.”

I smiled and said, “Thank you. See you next week,” and walked off.

I left the building feeling pretty happy, but within minutes I started thinking I should have asked for her number. Then I started thinking, she's literally paid to be nice to me, so it could have all been in my head.

Anyways. Overall I am happy because I'm 4 months out of an 11 year relationship (with 2 kids) and have been slowly doing these low risk approaches for a few weeks.

That's it. Any feedback appreciated.
