In English, people often use "lady" to describe or call any woman (Using their standard, they should call a man as "Lord", according to the full original wordings of: "Lords, Ladies and gentlemen") and the new trend of using words like "woman doctor" or "woman teacher", but you will almost never find "man doctor" or "man teacher" in the media. They are trying their hardest to avoid using the word "female", but "male" and even "males" are being used regularly for men and boys.

It is a subtle way to elevate women and denigrate men by using language.

Pshh..they wish they had as much capability as us. That's what all their resentment is about in a nutshell. It's pathetic. Just like my comment but I have to say it. They just come to our spaces to ruin our fun always it seems

Don’t you love when people who don’t understand a thing about a topic act as if they did? What is it called again? I forget the name they gave it.

Linguists have been pushing to change the nomenclature of “gender” in languages to “noun classes” because ignorant people think the “gender” in a language reflects the concept of gender in society, which is far from the truth. It’s just a borrowing of the word “gender”. If that were the case, then China should be a more equal society, shouldn’t it? I mean, Mandarin doesn’t have gendered nouns. And yet, in China, there are more men than women after the one-child policy they did. I mean, Mandarin doesn’t have plurals. Do they “think about numbers” less than English speakers do? Are the Chinese worse in maths? Some African languages have up to 16 “genders”. Are they “more aware” of the differences between men and women in society?

In other words, there is no correlation whatsoever between grammatical gender and societal gender. And yet…

The people making these changes obviously have never spoken to a linguist in their lives. It would be so easy to understand how that is such a terrible idea.

This article was confusing to me. Are they changing the default gender from male to female for when the gender of a human is unknown? Or are they making all common nouns feminine? I don’t read Italian, so I feel like I need more context.
