I think that we, as a species, desperately need to start raising our daughters to be adults, and not simply "very large children".

I helped care for a loved one who was dying of cancer, though it was my mother, not a romantic partner, and while the relationship is naturally going to be different, I can easily understand how such feelings could develop- they're a natural outgrowth of the frustrations that come from the impositions.

But they are feelings. When your feelings push you to do, or desire, something bad, indulging them is no healthier than repressing them; your feelings don't control your actions unless you choose to let them. With notions of hypoagency comes willingness to act like... well, like someone with no moral agency, because you're not responsible for anything that you do, since some dark god like "The Patriarchy" controls everything that happens to and around you.

Too many Cinderellas and not enough Antigones in their bedtime stories, I guess. It's kind of funny how I find myself agreeing with so many Feminist talking points, and vehemently against so many of their actual actions...

I wrote this long rant as a reply to another comment that looks pretty buried. I believe it waw one of your comments, OP, but I wanted others to be able to see it more easily if they're willing to do the reading.

It does answer your question of what I think, though not in the way most people would think. And for reference, I am a man.

I've been in that woman's situation a couple times. If you don't know what it's like, you're lucky. You also don't know shit about what it can do to you.

Part of your world stops in that situation. The other part of your world relentlessly keeps moving. Unless you can compartmentalize and play some good tricks on your brain and emotions, those two parts of your world being torn apart, tears you right with it.

Anytime I see someone in a similar situation, or even "just" a grieving situation, I tell them to balance the 2 parts. I tell them to grieve, because they need to. I tell them to take a break from grieving occasionally, because they need to, and it gives them time to deal with the world moving on. Makes it easier to live in both worlds until you're ready to fully join the one that moved on. It's not easy to do, but it can be done.

This woman has been grieving for over a year. Watching her husband deteriorate for that whole time. There's not really too many ways to take a break from that. She's mentally and emotionally drained, and continues to be as long as he lives.

She doesn't maliciously want to move on. She needs for it to be over. The stress is breaking her. Watching her husband suffer every day is breaking her. She's hoping she'll have something left after it's all over.

And yeah, it sounds fucked up, but she wants it to be over. It's not that she wants him to die, it's that she wants everyone to stop suffering every day. I'm sure if she had the choice to have him miraculously cured or pass immediately, she would choose him.

It's natural to want to move on. Wallowing in grief too much fucks with our brains. It's human nature to grieve and move on, and she's fighting that nature. It's easy at first, but it gets harder and harder.

I don't want anyone to have to suffer for a long period, but I hope everyone in here that's talking shit gets the chance to experience what she is going through. Maybe then people can have some empathy.

Oh, and while he's the victim of the disease, she is too. Their whole family is. Is it really a victim complex when she is a victim? It also seems like she's venting. She's reaching out for help. Trying to ease the load so she can keep going.

I really hope all of the naysayers in here get the opportunity to have actual empathy for her, and remember their comments in here when they do.

I think it's really complicated and conflicting feelings are normal in such distressing circumstances. My father was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer two years ago which was a shock considering he was in his 40s and perfectly healthy in every other sense and his relationship with his wife didn't survive the diagnosis.

The gut reaction of course is to be disgusted at someone who would have such thoughts mentioned in the post regarding their sick partner but she's witnessing her partner literally dying before her, it can feel like a perpetual state of grief. She is seeing her partner in immense pain every single day, they both know the end and are both waiting for his inevitable death - it can be mentally destroying.

I think until you have witnessed a loved one go through a terminal cancer diagnosis, you shouldn't comment on how others process it. It is devastating in every way.

If you have ever watched a loved one slowly disintegrate due to terminal cancer, you would probably understand a bit better. This isn’t a “men’s rights” thing…it is a human thing. Why are you trolling “mum’s net” anyways?
