My children were grown when my divorce happened and through a series of missteps on my part one of them hasn't spoken to me in almost 3 years. I'd like to give some advice that may be meaningful, especially if you are early in the process.
1) Speak no ill of the amputated part of your life. She is still your kids mom, the in laws still their grandparents, everyone else their aunts, uncles and people they see at BBQ's. Say nothing of how you actually feel. Save that for your therapists.
2) Always be available for them. By phone in person, whatever. When they call or text stop what you are doing and give them your undivided attention. If you cannot do that let them know you call them back soonest.
3) Take part in activities that remove them from their devices. Fishing. Campfires with Smores. Stargazing. A family movie night. Make them their favorite meal. Create experiences that have lasting, meaningful impact. They don't have to be expensive or extravagant.
4) Keep your house clean. Hire a service if you need to. The state of your subconciously reflects the state of your brain. If they see an untidy, messy house they think that YOU are untidy and messy.
I did not follow this advice and I have paid a hard price for it. I'm hoping your relationships will laern from my mistakes.
