Work on not masturbating at all. From time to time is perfectly okay, but you don't want to be using it as a coping mechanism for your emotional troubles. Easier said than done, but you need to develop another method for dealing with anxiety.

I say don't overthink it. If you have a genuine sexual urge use it however you feel like. If you really want to take off stress that's a choice too but if you want to approach later that approaching will be shit because you may have no stress but you also will have no drive.
