So I have a friend that I only see a few times every year, and she invited me to her 21st. I get along great with her, but her friends interactions with me for the whole night were just... off, if you know what I mean.

So I get off at the bus stop and her and her boyfriend come meet me. In the few times I've met him, I don't think the bf has ever liked me, maybe we just don't gel, maybe he thinks I'm after his girl, fuck it, let him think what he wants as long as he doesn't do anything crazy. They bring me in to the kitchen where some other people are hanging out before going into one of the other rooms. Eventually, the only other guy in the room leaves, so it's just me talking to the three girls.

Everything seemed to be fine, we all seemed to be getting on fine, the one I talked to the most even got kinda touchy, but the one or two times I actually reciprocated she just pulled her arm back and said sorry, so I just kinda just stopped caring. Eventually, one of the girls from the other room came and called her in, so I just talked to the other two.

Now I don't know what happened, but from the rest of the night on my alarm bells were just ringing like freaking crazy. We went into the usual bar, but everyone seemed more distant, even the chick I was hanging with for most of the night kept switching between being touchy friendly and being really reserved. When my friend was alone, I told her I seemed to be mostly getting on fine with the rest of the gang, but that there was just something wrong I couldn't put my finger on, and asked her if there was some kind of group drama going on. Apparantly two of the girls kissed some other night, and three other people had a bit of a love triangle thing going on, but I don't really think that explains everthing.

When we left, one of the girls I hadn't really talked to as much went up to me and said "You seem really good-natured, but you look like you had a bad night". (Guess I haven't completely killed the Nice Guytm yet). I blew it off by saying "Ah, I'm grand. You holding up ok?", but to be honest I'm still not sure why she said that.

TLDR

Went to a 21st of mostly people I didn't know, got on well with them at first, but then they started getting distant.

Could any of you fill in the blanks in this story? I'm probably not going to see most of these people again, so what they think of me doesn't matter too much, but I'd like to know if I'm doing something wrong or if I'm just horribly unlucky when it comes to petty drama.
