Hey guys. Long time lurker, occasional poster. I've been considering making a post pertaining to this for awhile now.

It's well known (in this sub at least) how common it is for women to have laundry lists of qualities/characteristics they expect from a potential mate. These qualities extend from looks, height, fashion sense, humor, intelligence, wealth, etc...

Go ahead and Google some variation of "What I look for in a man" and you'll come up with hundreds of thousands of laundry lists posted by women filled with their expectations of men. Naturally, this is accepted in our society. It fits along with the "you go girl" narrative, where women should not settle with less than what they want. It's what leads to the pursuit of alpha men and the use of beta men.

However, how acceptable is the reverse? For men to have preferences and expectations? Apparently, not at all in western society. Abundant anecdotal evidence has shown me that people are actively hostile towards men voicing their preferences. They are accused of fat shaming (wanting a girl who takes care of herself), slut shaming (wanting a girl who's faithful), pedophilia (wanting a girl with a youthful appearance), and even racism (wanting a girl of the same or different race).

One of the best examples of this is from Nash Grier. I don't much about this guy aside from him being very famous and controversial on Vine/Youtube/Twitter. Awhile back, he posted a video on the simple topic of what he looked for in a girl... The backlash was unimaginable. He was attacked by hordes of white knights, feminists, and trolls. His video hit several million views before he eventually decided to take it down. After hearing horror stories from female friends about the atrocities of this video, I expected the very words of the devil to be spoken from this blue-eyed boy's mouth. Instead it was just three young guys talking about what they like in girls. In fact, they're relatively nice about it too ("just be yourself.") Regardless, the comments section erupted with accusations and slanders all because these boys had the audacity to say what they prefer in the opposite sex.

I'd love to hear what you guys think about this double standard.
