How do I manage and communicate with women in the office?

First, I think it's important to be sure you are treating everyone in the office with respect no matter thier position. It sounds like you are but it's important and worth saying.

Second, you are managing people not photocopiers. As you are in a position of authority, it's important to remember that a single harsh word from you can decimate a subordinate emotionally. Most people can't admit when they screw up and will deflect their anger back to the person that noticed the error. Remember also that these aren't highly driven people taking charge of thier lives. They are probably content doing whatever it is they are doing. You can't treat them they way you would expect to be treateted.

Managing anyone, men or women, can be tough. I used to manage a relatively small team and was shocked at the amount of belly aching that can come from both sexes. People can be fucking babies if you let them.

Are thier specific criticism from then that you are aware of? Is any of it valid? Is it possible for you to soften somewhat slightly your language? I'm not talking about begging but sprinkling in a small amount of social grace may go a long way. Are their any females on your side who could critique your e-mail for insight into what exactly these women find objectionable?

Focus on your work and being a leader in the office. Master your craft and take initiative. You should be social with EVERYONE, not just women. Make sure you're only talking to women when you have some free time and don't linger around. Work comes first when at work.

First off from a successful business man, trp is horrible advice for the office.

You act trp in the office you're going to end up in hr, and in case you are wondering hr protects the company, always, not you or your interests.

My best advice for a young manager is, give people enough rope to hang themselves with, have your write up or firing boots ready, and make it a point to congratulate a job well done.

Use official channels to make shitty employees paper trail suck, and keep giving the good ones more Independence
