I don't think you're an orbiter if you haven't invested time in cultivating some relationship. From her reaction, the impression I get is that you two haven't hung out together outside of work.

I told her I didn't care, and basically to just get over it. She said "Well I guess it's not a date if I pay for myself... I guess it's okay"

I think you passed a shit test, though you're dangerously close to being friend-zoned. She acknowledged your intent and gave you a stupid excuse. You disregarded her excuse and now she is hamstering a reason to hang out with you when she knows you want to fuck her.

It doesn't matter if this dude exists or not or if she really likes him. All that matters is whether or not she finds you attractive. You are not in competition with this other guy. If a girl finds two guys really attractive, she'll fuck them both.

I think this date is your only shot at making something happen. I think you need to make it clear with your actions that you're not interested in anything platonic. If you can't make it happen this weekend, then I think you'll have crossed into orbiter territory.
