You just don't understand how fucked up CorporateLand is. This is what happened: project starts going to shit, three people have a say in it. Two are hapless idiots but agree with and like each other while one knows what he's doing but is the odd man out. When the paper trails & red tape start flying, sheep mentality shits on the odd one out.
You were operating under the delusion of being in a meritocracy and paid the price. How few can speak poorly of you, how many like you and how you're seen as impacting "the status quo" are what get you promoted - NOT actual merit.
Like the other comment said, rule number one: email trails for everything. Rule number two, if you have to choose between your idea & doing something dumb that someone else is pushing for, ALWAYS DO THE DUMB SHIT THEY SUGGEST. They are offering to impale themselves & make you look good, TAKE THEM UP ON IT and always leave records of your input that it's not the best idea, alternative suggestion and your CONCESSION to do it their way.
Don't stand out or try to be hot shit - even if 90% of your calls are impeccable they will be forgotten and the other 10% will be rubbed in your face ad nauseum every time you ask for a raise, or a promotion, or a project you want.

All good advice, except one thing I would point out is he said he's the lead on this project, so if he were to go along with these two bozos he would likely catch some shade as well, if not more than them.

Some corporate advice to you: buttshielding.
You might be the most aggressive and successful person on the team or whole company or whole country. You still need buttshielding.
Everything in email form. If it's not on email, it doesn't exist. If she doesn't email you, you email her "just to confirm, you want us to blablablabla now? this disregards yesterday's blablablabla, so what do we do about it?". She doesn't reply - whole conversation doesn't exist.
You do that with everyone. Someone goes nuts, tells you you're a wanker and boss' going to hear about this, you calmly forward whole conversation to the boss, commenting it with "boss, X is going 180 day after day, I'm don't think we can trust her to finish this project".
And archive and keep each and every email.

Corporate Success:
The name of the game with a project is to do as little as possible, then get your boss to believe that you personally did a great job.
Your career will progress as you are put on a more important project.
This is how you win the game.
The way that you lose it is by becoming a martyr or a victim.
The martyr does huge amounts of work, which is not noticed by his superiors, and allows others to take the credit.
The victim is the sucker who gets the blame and none of the credit.
