OFFICE POLITICS: Tough time at Entry level sales role: First week I obliterated quota (sales and call volume/talk time) and made a name for myself that I apparently can't live up to. Incident occurred Friday that seems serious about my future with the firm.

Haters gonna hate. I mean honestly, if outperforming is gonna put you on a shit list with no benefits (chance of raise, better leads, etc.) then they're actively encouraging you not to perform well. How many of your managers worked their way up the company? If many, do what they did. If few, earn enough to get an education so you can do what you really want to do.

But if you think it's worth it to go above and beyond in this situation, make sure that the numbers you pull reflect good on your boss. Take very little glory from it, instead fluff your boss' ego. I highly recommend 48 Laws of Power for situations like these.

You need to chill.

Learn as much as you can, get experience, learn to sell.

If they boot you it is very easy to get another sales job. Be outcome independent.

Also: there doesn't exist a job on the planet that has sensible training. Forget the idea. It's a unicorn. Get used to finding things out for yourself.

First, calm the fuck down.

Second, of course they're watching you...you are the FNG and you’re killing it. Assume that they are monitoring you at all times.

Third, your firm's sales training program blows dead bears...or would if they HAD a sales training program.

Fourth, you're a sales guy, you should be testing the waters. Having a female boss usually sux. Even women prefer male bosses.

Fifth, it's actually good that you heard them in the conference room. Now you know who your friends are, and aren't.

Sixth, if you continue to kill it, that will make up for a lot of sins. That said, communicate with your boss in here preferred way, for now.

Seventh, if possible, find a mentor.

Your Move: Show up, treat every day as normal, go with the flow, internally, and always have 2 escape routes. Build your book and develop your skills and all will be well.
