Fuck that shit. I'd say something along the lines of "You owe me £x" if she didn't attempt to pay on her own. I was once on a date with a girl and asked her if she was going to get a drink (we were at a bar) and she replied "Yeah I'll have a cider" or whatever and I just told her I wasn't going to pay for her drink.

I generally pay if logistically I think we're 85% of the way there.
Example, I've got a girl at the club that's falling all over me and I want to lock it down. I'll pay for another round of drinks and a cab.
Or, if I've invited her for a snack and coffee (from the cafe next to my apartment) I'll pay for it.
I find that it's kind of manly to feel like you're paying for shit - but only if you're on the home stretch and about to bang her. Otherwise no. Stopping to ask her for half feels like kind of a bitch move at that point.
But full out sit down meals with girls I haven't banged...f that
