Hey guys, I fucked up and need some advice, I see you guys as one the most honest subreddit.

I started studying business at uni in Germany last April. An app almost identical to Yik Yak was on it´s rise to popularity. So basically you post stuff and people within a 10km radius can read it for about a day, till it gets replaced by newer posts. You don´t need to sign up for anything, they allegedly just want your location and that´s it.

We had a small Karma race going and I posted some stuff about our professors, retroperspectively some of the things were pretty mean.

  • When our math prof wasn't wearing a bra: "No bra monday in room X featuring First name Last name, no entry fee, no entry under 18" - I feel extremely bad about that one
  • Our IT Guy held a talk and it was said that he puked over the security some nights before: "The security is warned of puke attacks by First name Last name "

And some smaller ones, not quite as bad.

Stuff you would normally share with your friends or smear on bathroom stalls, but I was so dumb to post them. I didn´t consider possible consequences, I was just posting stuff of which I thought would generate a good amount of likes. It´s just so retarted, I wasn't thinking, why would you even post full names?

Yesterday a female professor told us during her lecture that the Uni is taking legal actions against posts aimed at the professors.

Worst case: They find out all the students, including me, and expel them. The thought of fucking up my future over some worthless internet points is killing me. I definitely learned my lesson, deleted the app and all my posts.

So right now I´m contemplating, whether I should go and apologize or just hope that nothing comes of it and in case it gets traced back to me, just think of something to do.

I can't tell how likely it is for the Uni to find out who it was, since it would be quite difficult. All the app needs of you is your location and internet, so they would have to get a court order to access the data of the app and trace down the IP addresses. Furthermore I don´t even know if the posts are stored on servers for more than a couple of days, since they drop out of your feed within a day and seem to be stored locally on your fun if you´ve interacted with them in any way (liked, posted, commented)

It´s just that Germany is quite strict, when it comes to privacy and data, so they might have to store all posts by law.
