What exactly are traits of good "game"?

It's hard to give a straight forward definition of "Game". It's a broad concept encompassing a wide set of skills, behaviors, mental models, etc. The fact that you dismiss PUA as manipulative and fake right off the bat shows that you haven't really even looked in to it. Modern pickup has evolved far beyond the cheesy lines and routines, and has developed in to a deeper philosophy of women, men, relationships, social theory, etc. In fact, "the red pill" itself is a result of the PUA/Game community, developed by people like Tyler from Real Social Dynamics, Patrice O'Neal, Rollo Tomassi of The Rational Male (check out his Game Works article). In fact, the very first use of the Matrix "red pill" analogy was by a PUA who runs a blog called Hawaiian Libertarian.

With that said I would argue that a willingness to actually escalate physically with confidence is the core principle of all "game".

Game heavily relies on being witty and escalating. Women won't find you interesting if your only attributes are being well dressed and can hold a serious frame all the time.

You can summarize good "game" in one word: Confidence. It's not really important what you do, but do it and with confidence. A lot of it.

Lots of people talk about game without ever defining it, so I understand your confusion. Basically, game is the strategy you use to get women in bed with you. It encompasses everything from the approach, how you talk to her, physically escalating, and "closing" (getting laid). Looking good and holding frame is only the first step.

You seem to have internalized some negative stereotypes about Game. Don't immediately cut down a tree because you can't see the whole forest.
