Here to make a list with the help of anyone willing. For background, I am 18 and want to step my life up. First goals are fundamentals: diet, sleep, and exercise. However I am on prescription beta-blockers which reduce my motivation and willpower to stoner levels. I've researched from scholarly articles to historical autobiographies on the topic of willpower. I will share my thoughts and request feedback, suggestions, ect.

  • Most compare willpower to a muscle. Components of muscles like capacity, endurance, fatigue, restoration, and adaption all apply to willpower.

  • Tasks that require a lot of motivation should occur in the morning. If you make a habit of skipping workouts, do them early. Your reserve tanks are on full in the morning. By this doctrine I usually don't stay up late doing difficult homework, but wake up early for it.

  • Regulated masturbation. If you fap once a day, go a week without and notice the bonus points in motivation you get. Of course, breaking the habit of masturbation takes willpower, so don't try and do everything at once.

  • Build on increments. I have an unresearched hypothesis, but I think each need you fulfill in Maslow's Hierarchy of human needs nets you more willpower. The catch is you must complete one layer at a time. Rising up the pyramid without filling out each base leaves you prone to anxiety, depression, and much more.

  • Depression/anxiety is a crazy battle. I stuck my toe in that nasty ass water while recuperating from surgery. The most important thing with depression/anxiety or self-esteem/insecurity issues: the human mind can't think logically in an emotional state. It's impossible to believe in yourself, everybody seems ×100 better than you. REMEMBER: you are blind. There are days when effort seems futile. Convincing yourself so well in a state of emotion, you believe it in neutral mind afterwards. The only weapon to brandish is dumb resilience. You won't know how repeatedly close you were in those hair - brained schemes to beating it. Always convincing yourself when you got to the door that nothing was on the other side but more doors. Trust me, soon you will open one to the outside. Willpower will increase a thousand fold.
