For reasons of my own choosing I am in a LTR with a great woman who meets all my needs. As a firm believer in TRP and self improvement, I hold myself and those around me to a high standard. Part of this is to take ownership of everything I do (good and bad-I'm no saint, but I am not a bad person). If I can step up and admit I'm wrong when emotions get the best of me, I expect others to as well.

This plays out with close friends and family along the lines of calling out poor behavior or questionable actions and asking questions to see what the thought process behind it was. This sounds condescending and somewhat supercilious, but it isn't. I genuinely care when I charge others to take ownership of their emotions and actions. If I don't care about someone I simply observe and stay silent or mostly not even notice.

Recently, when I "called her out" (not in a demeaning way at all) on some overly emotional behavior she got very angry and accused me of treating her like a child. She was in the midst of her monthly visit from Aunt Flo so I have taken that into consideration but it brought up a larger question. What does this mean in the larger context of a RP relationship? Would you say she is starting to understand that her thought processes are in line with a child's at times (we all succumb to this-myself included)? Or will she think I am over bearing or "parenting" her? Potentially leading to a desire to rebel?

I think partners should be held to a high standard and I welcome her feedback when I get out of line, but have never thought she tried to parent me. I refuse to keep silent and just accept certain behaviors because that just isn't me, but if it is going to come at a cost of her resentment, I don't know how to go about it.

Anyone else have a similar situation and/or advice for me?
