In Time magazine. WOW.
From the article:
Adolescent girls, routinely dressing in seductive ways, are ill-prepared to negotiate the sexual attention they attract.
And it is a negotiation. That we would take this aspect out of it and instead say free sex is somehow empowering, especially for women is not only damaging but stupid.

Give away the most intimate part of yourself to anyone who gives off a cool vibe... gee, what could go wrong with that??

I think sex education is extremely important, especially with regards to the risks women are taking each time they have sex. Contraception should be high up on the list as well because, unfortunately, just straight up teaching abstinence doesn't often work. Being in the south, that's the major "lesson." Unfortunately, many girls from my class in high school already have children or are currently pregnant when they (and their partners) are barely making minimum wage.
But yes, they really need to focus on making young teens understand the consequences of sex from STDs to pregnancy. Teens might be less likely to have unprotected sex willy nilly if they knew what they were getting into.

Is it weird I immediately thought of John Cleese's schoolmaster from the sex-ed skit from Month Python's The Meaning of Life after reading the headline?

Most of what she said was valid, but she went on prescriptivist tangents with her opinions on schools distributing birth control and in her view, endorsing homosexuality. Neither of those things directly relate to the point she was making.
