On the face of it, not responding to emotional arguments made in bed is the correct response. But you failed in that you froze like a deer in headlights, and only didn't respond because you couldn't think of something to say.

Cut yourself some slack and don't move so fast. This is not hyperspeed this is life and you have a lot of years you are trying to undo. One conversation is just that: one conversation.
