Gawd you sound like a woman. Figure it out. If you owe 8k then you either haven't paid in a while or make decent money. Set up a payment plan, put it on a credit card, get another job and pay it off.

Which country are you from? What's the policies in place? How long have you owed them? Are you sure about the amount owe (have you asked a professional to run the numbers?)

In my country, if you owe too much you can arrange for a meeting with the relevant department and arrange to pay them in monthly installments or even get a discount when it's clear it'll take you years to pay them back.

You need to file on time. They have payment plans.

try to do a better job in the future on estimating your taxes and adjusting payroll deductions. did you cash in a large 401k? how did you end up in this mess?

Talk to a tax guy to verify you didn't screw up your taxes. He'll also help you figure out how to set up a payment plan if you do actually owe that much.

What job were you doing that they didn't withhold taxes from your paycheck during the year?
