Hello ladies, I am a 24 yr old woman and usually a lurker here. I follow the RPW principles; I have been in nun mode and doing my own thing. I have made lots of improvements and I have been growing a lot as a person out in the real world.

I have been doing a lot of thinking about my future and career, and it seems I am leaning towards a career in the Air Force. I come from an Air Force family-- My dad dedicated his life to it and thanks to his committment to the AF, my mother and I have been lucky enough to have a pretty good life. I would love for my future kids to have an upbringing similar to my own. For me, joining the AF comes from a sense of duty and tradition. I love my country and I want to help others. Right now, I have begun the physical training and I plan on heading to basic by the end of this year.

For a while all I ever wanted was to find a nice man, make our vows before God, and have a couple of babies. But, this dream may very well be delayed when I enlist. Right now I am 24, if I sign a 4 year contract, I will be 28 when the contract is up. Or the 6 year contract, I will be 30. 28 and 30 are a little late for me for having at least 1 child and getting to experience being a parent (I would prefer a younger age to have children). Who knows what will happen when I enlist, though. I could possibly meet a nice man after tech school, but I know that many people in the military get married for the wrong reasons and end up miserable. I do not want that outcome. I want a marriage that will last, like my parents' marriage has. My parents' situation, however, my dad was active duty and my mom was a civillian, so she was able to stay home, raise me, and perform her duties as a wife. I will not be able to be a SAHM during my AF career (except on my days off). The Air Force is something I am VERY passionate about, when the four years are up, I may want to re-enlist again. AF values; integrity first, **service before self**, and excellence in all we do. The want to settle down and be a wife will have to come after my committment to the AF.

This is the only thing that is making me a little anxious about enlisting. I am more than excited for this journey-- I feel like I have found my true calling career-wise.

I do know there are active duty moms and dads out there. I wish to know how do you balance your career with your home life? Is there a lot of babysitting going on? Is one still able to establish a traditional household setting and upbringing, even when both parents are working?

UPDATE I found this article after making this post. It turns out that the Air Force gives pregnant Airmen the choice as to whether or not they want to stay in the military, or discharge. This is GREAT news, because I can still experience the Air Force and be a mom. For those that believe in God, I believe this is Him giving me another sign. He always has my back. I am really happy. https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/your-air-force/2017/04/29/new-air-force-policy-gives-new-mothers-12-months-to-decide-if-they-want-to-stay-in-uniform/
