Well, it's not that simple.
There have always been beta men. The nagging emasculating wife has been an archetypal character for thousands of years, even when women were much more oppressed than in the 50s. Just because women were socialized to not make a fuss in their marriages it doesn't mean that their husbands knew how to command respect, and this could manifest itself in many ways on their wives behavior, which made for some bad wives.
There have also always been sluts. When the norm was for every woman to be married, this meant sluts also got married, some even to quality alpha men, but they still couldn't contain their slut nature, which also made for some bad wives.
So, the fact that not "all" wives in the 50s were "good wives" does not contradict the point that there can be such a thing as "good" or "bad" wives.
