Isn't if funny how people start to question the "guilty until proven innocent"-stance when they (or their relatives) are affected themselves.

One irony of this particular story is that [the alleged rapist] Kopin and [the alleged victim] Sclove share a common background of progressive activism—an interest that helped form a bond between them after both transferred to Brown in January 2013 (Kopin from NYU, Sclove from Tufts). Kopin, the younger of two sons of physician parents, attended the Rashi School, a Boston-area Jewish school that has a strong social justice orientation; both at home and at school, he was raised in an environment where “believing the victim” in a sexual assault case is a widely shared principle. Today, he speaks earnestly of his gratitude for the support he has received from friends who are “who are a part of this feminist community that I’d like to consider myself a part of.”

Yet Liz Kopin, who says that talking to her son about Sclove’s charges was “the most painful conversation I could ever imagine,” also acknowledges that the experience has changed the way she views sexual assault allegations. “To have someone misconstrue a situation, perhaps because of a prior assault or abuse, and then make an accusation in such a process where she can destroy a young man’s life—stunning,” she says. “I never, ever would have expected this.”

This is it, folks. This is the majority of campus 'rape.' I'm often skeptical of both parties but wow... there was a definite plausibility issue going on with Sclove's claims. This is after-the-fact rationalization and, I daresay, suggestion (from her therapist) that allowed her to overwrite her own memories, fuzzy as they were. Her history of the event became a narrative rather than an attempt at an accurate recounting.

Her very push-pull demeanor toward him is a red flag for back-rationalization and extremely liberal interpretation of anything she didn't remember clearly. Look at me, trying to give her the benefit of the doubt... someone had to be either lying or deluded. I'm going with deluded as she seemed too confused to be acting deliberately maliciously - but that does not absolve her of responsibility for wrongdoing. She's a big girl.

When I was in college, I sat on my university's judicial board, and we had to decide on a case very similar to this one. These cases are difficult not because someone is lying, but because two people clearly believe what they are saying. Now, I believe this woman felt she was raped, but to be honest, her story lacks logic in so many places that it simply doesn't add up to scrutiny. I am in no way attacking the alleged victim here, but when you hear her account, and the mutually agreed upon facts, she does seem to be a bit mentally fragile, and her state of mind may indeed have been affected by her earlier encounter with a different man.

But we must remember what, in fact, "rape" is. Unfortunately, rape often gets conflated with something else entirely. Rape is when someone expresses to the other party, clearly and unambiguously, that they do not want the sexual encounter to start (or to continue), and then the other person forcibly continuing what is now a non-consensual act (or, of course, if someone takes advantage of another party that is heavily drugged or passed out entirely). Unfortunately, this horrible act occurs often and people who commit it should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

However, there is another type of situation that happens more often than many of us would like to believe. And it is this: Both parties go somewhere, with every intention of having sex. When they get there, both parties agree to have sex (with their words or actions). During the sex, one party (often the man) starts to act a bit disrespectful (aka, "douchey"). This starts to make the woman feel ambivalent about the situation. But NOT so ambivalent that she decides to stop the interaction by saying the words "No" or "Stop", or "I don't want to do this," or getting up and walking away.

After the act is completed, she leaves, feeling a bit violated, and as the hours and days wear on, starts to feel worse and worse about the encounter. At this point, it can go 2 ways: Most women will say, "What a douche that guy is. I don't like the way he behaves during sex. I'm not going to hookup with him anymore." And it ends there. But some women will come away, feeling so bad about the situation, that they genuinely feel raped; even if they technically were not. And herein lies the trouble with these sorts of cases. Perception. But you can't convict someone off of perception, only facts.

Me when looking at this thread: oh a false rape issue with 10 discussions in other subreddits....surely 2X or AskHamsters or Feminism will be among the "other discussions"....because all of this is a "feminist issue", right?

Oh, of course, none of those subs have touched it because it disrupts their narrative and would force them to confront the crazy system they seem to like and that false reports DO occur.

Yeah some crazy girl said that to my husband a few years back and he essentially said if I do go to prison I'm gonna come out one day, and when I do I'm gonna find you. He dared her to make that claim. Looking back I doubt anyone would have believed her anyway, she was a chronic liar

Reading this made me realize that the blue pill actually fucks up public policy. The difference between what a woman says and what really is going on is extremely prevalent. In this case, women are crying rape and no support from the schools but what they really mean is that they are unhappy that they can't enslave others.

This guy is a perfect example of that. The schools have broken every rule in the book to preemptively get rid of him since the feminist backlash would be stronger. Yet they still aren't happy with that. This is no different from expelling a bullied victim for being bullied. They still cry rape because it is a power move and they know that they can get away with it. That's all this boils down to: inflicting wounds on one's self to get sympathy and temporary power. Since this power wanes with sympathy, there is a continual need to cry victim over and over again. They're masochists who are addicted to the pleasure of pain.

The answer? Well... how do you prevent someone who's about to commit suicide from receiving sympathy?

Why do campuses have a 'court' if they not going to have the standard 'balance of possibilites' rather that siding with the instigator.

University should not be dealing with the life impact of these accusations because sexual assault is a criminal matter.

She claims he choked her (in the street!) hard enough to give her a serious spinal injury months later...and yet, right after this supposed Darth Vader Death Choke, she went to his place. Utter bullshit.

She probably had some chronic spine issues due to hunching over her iPhone and Macbook constantly (seriously - chiropractic issues are common in 20somethings now) and decided to pin them on him, for the sympathy and money. Seriously; this is the most likely source of neck pain for a young college woman.

Second most likely source of neck pain for a girl is giving lots of BJs.
