Apparently people in other subreddits are actively trying to avoid having any Red Pill discussion available for others. Because, you know, WE'RE the vote brigaders...

Society isn't doing better because of divorce but in spite of it, besides society isn't getting better, its getting worse.

An astonishing level of post hoc ergo propter hoc in that article. The fact that B happens at about the same time as A cannot be assumed to mean that A causes B.

Marriage is a fools game unless you've been dating for years, then it's still something to take VERY seriously.

Never Again. Getting Married doesnt provide a man any more advantage than a LTR does and only exists to fuck him in the ass when the woman decides to end it.

I generally believe getting married is insane for men and women given the kind of things we value as a society (flexibility, access to varied opportunities, exotic experiences, quick and short term results, etc) but this was a pretty weak case. It assumes too much about the tie between a woman's economic opportunities, their economic success, and their well being. These are not interchangeable terms.

I'd like to see the guys from freakanomics take a look, and see if the divorce rate also helps woman financialy..vs men. Or find some other connections

I agree. It seems like these articles, usually written by people versed in sociology rather than economics, completely ignore the effects of incentives on social phenomena. You can bet that divorce rates are higher in places that have more liberal alimony and child support laws.

It's the economics of a junkie that smashed your $700 car window to make off with that $50 tennis racket you left on the back seat.

Women make much more than $50 in GTPs (Gender Transfer Payments) every year -- a billion dollar industry.

The opportunity cost to civilization?

Priceless

They already have (in a roundabout fashion), although the literature in economics abounds with data. Women who divorce are significantly more likely to be living in poverty. Although theredpill keeps talking about men who get screwed over in divorces, the majority of men who get divorced recover and rebound within 10 years (not that 10 years is a small unit of time). Rich men get screwed in divorces: poor men are not any better or worse off. On the other hand, because women are more likely to be the primary caregiver, divorce is more likely to force women into poverty. We also know (no duh) that children living in poverty are much less likely to be successful, and that boys without a positive male role model are more likely to develop anti-social behavior.

Let's just skip the marriage and then divorce process altogether and require everyone to be single. If society gains when people become single, we shouldn't let them marry at all!

Well they are giving more free things to women on the men's dime everyday. It's like we're all paying alimony!

[–]Endorsed Contributormonsieurhire21 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Gotta love the use of the misleading "per thousand" people statistic used to discuss the divorce rate.

[–]Endorsed ContributorRedBigMan1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

because if men knew 75% of all marriages end in divorce, none of them would ever get married.

75%? Got a link cite for that? I thought it was 50%....

About 5% of the time my mom gets mad at my dad, she threatens to get a divorce, at which point she sounds like this:

I saw that when I was seven years old and it stuck with me.

I really dont know but it's retarded how high it is for a commitment that is supposed to be 'For Life'.
