My girl has been w me for a while. I’ve known her for years. And while I’ve made mistakes before, this time we dated consistently for 1.5 years without any insurmountable obstacles. She suddenly had an urge to “find herself” and we took a short break for us to pray about it (we are Christian). She also ended up not getting into the university I go to (she was trying to transfer). Now she believes that she is best off alone, without anyone, just trying to live life and have fun. This is NOT the kind of person she has been for years. She was a bit like this when we met (we were p young) but I explained to her that meaning was much more entangled with higher pursuits than just being a passive, go with the flow, fun-obsessed person.

I’m not sure why she had such a ridiculous and abrupt change. She believes that she caged herself and molded herself to my expectations but that her true self is meant to be free and unaccountable. She’s still extremely attracted to me and has sworn off dating anyone else (she’s the kind of person that means it when she says this). She’s not doing this to be w anyone else. She still says she loves me. She still even says she loves me romantically. But she wants to be free and not with me.

To me, such a drastic change to focus on fun is a bit weird. It’s like a regression. Because she got to the point of being hellbent on us being together and growing together and on making my life better. This is very strange and disorienting.

If you ladies would be so kind, it would mean the world to me if you would give me some advice on how to proceed. I don’t want to force her into anything. But I also know this isn’t a healthy, normal thing for her to do. I love her more than anything in the world and I want her to have a meaningful life, with or without me (obviously I infinitely prefer her with me though). What should I do? And if any of y’all are Christian ladies, would you consider praying for us through this? I need any help I can get. Thank you and much love.
