This seems off topic and irrelevant to TRP, but I’m sure I remember someone mentioning this show on here before and it’s portrayal of men (particularly Terry Crews being the epitome of a Beta) and women.

I really love the show’s humour and all the actors and actresses in it, but I’ve just finished watching S6E8 ‘He said, She Said’ and had to comment on it. The whole episode is this implicit (hardly), backhanded critique of masculinity and men in the modern-day workplace. I mean that’s kind of an understatement. The episode left me with a bitter taste in my mouth and wondering whether I should actually continue watching.

The plot of the episode is basically this: there’s a woman who’s been sexually advanced on by a man in her workplace, she punched him in the dick or something and now the two of the main characters in the show (detectives Jake and Amy) want to charge him for sexual harassment and see him go to prison. The whole episode is from the ‘perspective’ of women and is literally just railing at men and criticising them passive aggressively for being pigs. At one point in the ep Amy says to Jake how a man in her old department tried to kiss her and that’s why she moved. She then says, literally, ‘every woman I know has had this tried on then at one point in her career’. This seems like a blatant social commentary.

I get that this is fictional, but can we really not escape this rampant critique of ‘toxic masculinity’ anywhere anymore, even in one of my favourite shows? This #MeToo movement continues, apparently, and it’s not slowing down. The presupposition of the episode was pretty much: ‘believe women, women are always victims and men are guilty until proven innocent, but even then they’re still guilty’.

What a joke. Just needed to get this off my chest. Anyone seen the episode I’m on about?
