People just love to feel good about themselves. In your coworker's case, she wants to play the cupid role and be a matchmaker because if she succeeds, she can brag and feel good about what an amazing achievement this is. Remember that most of us are completely insignificant, we do jack shit with our lives and then we just die. Some people understand that and are okay with it for the most part. But for a lot of other people, they are still far too insecure about their feeble existence so they try to come up with the dumbest shit in order to feel important.

She may have picked you because she thought you were beta, or that you were the best available option for her friend. Either way don't sweat it, her opinion of you should be worthless in your eyes.

So the match maker one is a good example. Another one I can think of is your annoying neighbor lady who gossips about shit like her entire life is a goddamn soap opera and she is the protagonist. So basically anyone who gives too much fucks about how other people live and try to meddle or give "useful" advice are most likely just insecure about not being important enough.

If this woman is your friend, assume the best from her. She isn’t trying to insult you, she may actually think of her girl friend really highly, having known her for sometime she may not see her looks as objectively as you do. Some people also truly believe looks don’t matter or shouldn’t matter, and so rationalize ignoring them (for others, not for themselves). Just say she’s not your type and that’s it.

Take it as an insult. I’ve had coworkers do this with me before. If a coworker really wanted you she’d approach you herself. Women almost never set a man up with an attractive friend, it’s always the trash.

If a woman says “I want you to meet a friend” your internal response should be “why, you would be fine enough” regardless of her relationship status. The odds her friend has a higher smv than her in this situation is astronomically rare
